Analysis

Hydrology and Applied Sciences

Kestrel’s services in Hydrogeology and Applied Sciences are focused on sites affected by operations and disposal practices – past or present. Investigations are performed under federal programs like CERCLA and RCRA, as well as various state general environmental protection statutes and regulations. Kestrel’s work focuses on understanding and documenting conditions of soils, sediments, groundwater, and surface water for landfills, surface impoundments, mines, waste piles, old or abandoned manufacturing sites, operating manufacturing sites, and bombing ranges.

Kestrel integrates geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and life sciences to develop a clear understanding of the distribution of constituents, plumes of groundwater contaminants, and the risks and needs presented by those conditions. Kestrel’s ability to mine data and make sense of conditions at sites that have been studied for decades by other consultants is one of the things that brings clients to Kestrel. Another element of this service is Kestrel’s ability to interact with regulators on controversial and complicated issues in an assertive yet non-combative way. Kestrel tends to be able to restore credibility where that may have been lost over many years of friction or mistrust between long-term consultants and the regulatory agency personnel.
